by award winning
sculptor, John Searles, is a wall sculpture made of 13 triangles, each one
cut from the next larger size, then rotated during assembly to create an
illusion of dynamic motion.
This eye-catching art piece is made from a single sheet of copper onto
which intersecting lines of brass are melted. The patina on the copper is
slowly and painstakingly developed using an oxy-acetylene torch and
various chemical agents. When a unique and beautiful patina is achieved,
it is protected with several coatings of Renaissance Wax, a durable and
attractive finish. The prepared copper is pounded flat and bonded to a
sheet of furniture grade birch. The triangles are carefully cut, one from
inside the other, the edges are finished, then all the pieces are
carefully assembled, one on top of the other.
Also available in aluminum and stainless steel, as well as copper
bonded to aluminum for exterior display, “Rotating Triangles”
represents how the totality of life is made up of many complementary parts
which combine to create a spiraling outward energy and movement.
“Rotating Triangles” is 55.5” on a side by 8” deep and weighs
20 lbs. Larger and smaller and thicker and thinner sizes are available on
request. Commission orders usually take 6-8 weeks to complete.
