Metal Weavings Tightly Woven - Woven Metal Designs
Recently I have become very interested in the textural and design qualities of weavings.
Wavy Weaving (below) is made by weaving together strips of non-uniformly cuts strips of copper. It is then heat-colored with the oxy-acetylene torch to create a multiplicity of rhomboids with beautiful blues, purples, reds, browns and yellows. The colors appear to have an iridescent quality, reminiscent of abalone shell. I am making Wavy Weavings in numerous sizes: 12" x 36", 18"x24", 24"x36", 36"x48" and 36"x60". Please note that all the patinas are difficult to control but can be biased, to a certain degree, to one color or another.

Open Weaving (below left) is made with straight strips and 3/4" square holes to reveal shadows and the wall behind. It is a flat piece, mounted on a rigid metal frame and can be hung vertically or horizontally. I can do almost any size up to 48" x 96".
